Each high orbit is a major key; each low orbit is its relative minor. Flying clockwise moves by perfect fifths, while changing altitude moves to a key with the same notes.

The fifth is the 3:2 ratio, a naturally consonant interval. Stacking fifths visits all twelve tones, turning the old music-of-the-spheres idea into a route through space.
